My wife has too many bottles of wine, as does my mother in law so I set out to find creative solutions, which brought me to find a Wine Hutch. You can set up and enjoy your very own fun corner even if you may live in a small home with limited floor space. A wine hutch is smaller than a bar, but it can provide just as many entertainment opportunities. And when the unit comes in a stylish finish and beautiful craftsmanship, you can rest assured your evening with friends is going to be perfect.
Wine Hutch Design
The 690-000 model is one of Howard Miller’s most popular wine cabinets, particularly since it can be tucked nicely in a corner, and thus saves you a lot of floor space. The unit features a traditional design in a distressed Rustic Cherry finish. Made in the USA (both in terms of design and assembly), it comprises a lower cabinet encased in hardwood and glass panels, and an open upper cabinet with an adjustable glass shelf. Moreover, the hardware on the lower part of the cabinet features a beautiful antiqued finish that suits the overall style of the piece.
Finally, the hutch is sturdy on its feet including on carpeted or uneven floors; this is possible due to the floor levelers that are height-adjustable and mounted under all four corners of the cabinet to enhance its stability.
While bars are much wider than this, the corner wine cabinet is very spacious, so that both the bottom and the top shelves can be filled with accessories, glasses and other bottles (not just wine) as well, such as wine openers, shakers, bartender’s guides, whiskey glasses, liquor bottles, etc.
Inside the cabinets
The lower cabinet is all about storage, with its two fixed shelves. Its door has a lock for increased safety; upon delivery, you can find the key on the top of the unit.
The upper cabinet has no door, but its back panels are glass mirrored, which gives the whole piece a unique look. It also comes with an adjustable glass shelf that you can place to any level you find suitable within the cabinet. This way, you can have your wine bottles and accessories resting comfortably not only on the top of the lower cabinet, but also on this glass shelf. Shelves are locked securely into place with cushioned Pad-Lock metal shelf clips.
Moreover, the top of the upper cabinet is fitted with a hanging stemware rack to help you better organize your stemmed wine glasses without taking up valuable shelf space. There is no need to purchase the rack separately and figure out how to mount it onto another cabinet or a kitchen shelf. Apart from the practical side, the hanging rack also has an aesthetic one, as it enables you to display your collection of glasses in more ways than one: you can choose to place them vertically on the shelf, hang them upside down from the rack, or both.
The bottom metal wine rack holds up to 13 wine bottles, while the hanging stemware rack overhead can support about several glasses, their exact number depending upon their size and shape. Also inside the lower cabinet you can find two fixed shelves, each with a holding capacity of 4-5 bottles, plus accessories.
Given that there are 4 shelves in total, these may be able to hold a maximum of 20 bottles, but the number is greatly influenced by the design of the bottles themselves.
The wine hutch comes pre-assembled; depending on the delivery company, the couriers may be able to set it up inside for you so that all you have to do is place the glass shelf to the level you desire within the upper cabinet.
Personalize your unit
If you are a bit of a DIYer and have the time, the hutch can be customized to accommodate anything else that you may need; for instance, an electric wine opener can be fitted inside if you simply drill the top of the cabinet to make a small hole.
- This is a very elegant piece with gorgeous craftsmanship, and all your guests will agree that it looks nice. The hutch goes well in small homes and can be a great replacement of your typical bar that takes up a lot of space.
- It can be placed in a corner in the dining area, kitchen, or even into a poker room.
- It is made from hardwood and glass, which make the unit sturdy and durable.
- It provides plenty of storage space, as well as beautiful display opportunities for all wine enthusiasts out there.
- The hutch is a bit expensive, particularly since it has no doors, glass or otherwise, up top. However, it has that lovely top light to make up for it.
- Despite its plentiful storage space, it may not be enough for some wine lovers to keep all of their glasses and bottles organized; they may need to look for a bigger hutch (if they have the space to accommodate it).
The Wine Hutch is an extremely versatile piece of furniture that can be placed in any room where there is a free corner; it can also be customized. Some might argue that it is too expensive, but its stability, durability and versatility, together with its ingenious light more than make up for it. I really did not find any other wine hutch in any store or online which did not look tacky. This one is a gem which I am going with.
